Timing records everything on your Mac. Stunda records your work and bills it.
Timing is the most thorough automatic tracker on the Mac, and it has been
refined since 2011. Where the two part ways is what happens after the
recording: Timing hands you reports and exports, and by its own help pages
cannot create an invoice. Stunda ends at the invoice, runs on Windows too,
and has a free plan instead of a trial.
No card required. Timing facts checked

their own pages.
Stunda and Timing, line by line

One person Timing: $9 Stunda Pro: $4.49
5 people Timing: $80 Stunda Team: $22.45
Timing at $9 per seat a month, billed annually.
Professional is $9, Expert $11 and Connect $16 per user a month on annual
billing, or $11, $14 and $20 month to month, US prices before tax. There is no
free plan, only a 30-day trial with no card. Teams, the MCP server, the Web API,
Zapier and the GrandTotal invoicing plugin are Connect only; AI summaries and
report rounding need Expert or above. Stunda Team is $4.49 per person a month, with no seat cap.
That is where the two models separate: 3.6x at 5 people.
A record is not an invoice
Timing's own help pages say it "can't create invoices by itself". The
route to getting paid is an export, or GrandTotal, a separate paid Mac
invoicing app, through a plugin that needs Timing's top Connect plan. That
is a reasonable design for people who already have a billing system. For a
freelancer it means three products: the tracker, the invoicing app and the
glue between them. In Stunda the tracked session is the invoice line, and
the invoice is stored, shareable as a link, and exportable as a PDF on
every plan.
One Mac, or every machine your work happens on
Timing is Mac only, and its FAQ answers the Windows question with "Not
right now" and two recommendations for other tools. That is a fair choice
for a native Mac product. It stops working the day a client hands you a
Windows laptop, or the day you hire someone who uses one. Stunda ships a
desktop app for both, records the same way on each, and puts both people's
time in one workspace.
The price of the features a team needs
Timing's entry plan is $9 a month on annual billing, close to Stunda Pro
at $4.49. The gap opens when you add people: shared projects and team
time are Connect only, at $16 per user a month on annual billing, so five
people is $80. Stunda Team is $4.49 per person, $22.45 for the same five.
Timing's Connect plan also carries its MCP server, Web API and Zapier, so
if you want those anyway the comparison is closer than the headline.
Your time, inside the assistant you already use
Timing is one of the few trackers here with a first-party MCP server,
and it is a good one: read and write, a local server inside the Mac app or a
hosted one, OAuth per agent. It is on the Connect plan only. Stunda's is on
every plan including Free, reads and writes, and authenticates with a token
you create and revoke yourself.
Your hours, readable from your own AI client
Stunda hosts an MCP endpoint, so Claude, Cursor, Codex and VS Code can answer
questions about your tracked week without an export. It runs strictly as you,
on every plan including Free, and it uses no AI quota.
Timing is the better Mac tracker, and has been for years
Timing has been built for the Mac since 2011, and it is the most
granular automatic tracker in this category: every app, every document down
to its file path, every URL, plus calls, Calendar and Reminders on one
timeline. It can pull in iPhone and iPad Screen Time, its rules engine and
Entry-O-Matic turn raw usage into entries, and its reports export to five
formats with billing-grade rounding. Data stays on your Mac until you choose
to sync, and team admins only ever see project totals. If you live on one
Mac and want the richest record of your day, Timing is the stronger tool.
Moving over from Timing
Nothing here is a migration project. The honest version is that tracking
starts fresh and your history comes across as a file.
Export your history from Timing as CSV and keep it. It is your
record of what you already billed, and it does not need to live in Stunda
for that to be true.
Install Stunda and let it run for a week alongside Timing. The
two do not conflict, and a week is long enough to see whether the sessions
it records match what you would have typed in.
Timing has no free plan, so the overlap week runs on its trial. Start Stunda first and you will not be racing a clock.
Re-create your active projects and rates, which for most people is
a handful of rows. Historical entries can be posted through the API or
logged by an assistant through MCP if you want them in one place.
Invoice from Stunda once before you cancel anything. If the number
it produces matches the number you would have sent, the switch is done.
Timing and Stunda: common questions
Does Timing run on Windows?
No. Timing's FAQ answers "Not right now" and points Windows users to other tools. Stunda has native desktop apps for macOS and Windows. Checked 7 October 2026.
Can Timing create invoices?
Not by itself, in its own words. It exports reports and tracks billing status on Expert and above, and invoices through GrandTotal, a separate Mac app, with a plugin that needs the Connect plan. Stunda creates invoices from tracked time on every plan.
How much does Timing cost?
Professional is $9, Expert $11 and Connect $16 per user a month on annual billing, or $11, $14 and $20 month to month, US prices before tax. There is no free plan, only a 30-day trial with no card. Checked 7 October 2026.
Is Timing more detailed than Stunda?
Yes. Timing records documents with their full file paths, calls, Calendar and Reminders, and can import iPhone and iPad Screen Time. Stunda records apps, window titles, browser tabs and input counts, which is enough to bill from but not as complete a picture of the day.
Does Timing have a team plan?
Yes, Connect, at $16 per user a month on annual billing. Admins see total time per team project in the web app, never members' apps or sites. Stunda Team is $4.49 per person with no seat cap, and seeing other people's time is a permission that defaults to off.
Does Timing keep my data on my Mac?
By default, yes. Tracked time stays local unless you opt into Timing Sync, which the web app, AI summaries and teams require. Stunda tracks locally first and syncs to your workspace so the web app and invoices can use it.
Can I run both while I decide?
Yes. Both track in the background without a timer, so running them side by side for a week costs nothing but Timing trial days, and shows you which record you would rather bill from.
Where these numbers come from
Every Timing figure on this page was read off Timing's own
public pages on , and we quote
their cheapest advertised rate rather than their most expensive. Prices
change; if you find one here that no longer matches theirs, it is our
mistake and telling us fixes it for everyone.
Stunda's own prices come from our pricing page, and the plan
limits described here are the ones the API actually enforces rather than
marketing copy about them.
Still measuring, since the moment you opened this page
You've been here 2:40.
That's $3.78 unbilled.
That's how it slips away: a few quiet minutes at a time, on every project.
Stunda catches them all day, silently, and turns them into invoices that
send in four steps.
