Clockify's free plan is genuinely good, and this page says so. But the tier
that adds invoicing is per seat, the tier above it adds screenshots and GPS,
and none of it turns a tracked day into an invoice without you assembling one.

Basic sits below Standard at $3.99 per seat a month billed annually and does not
include invoicing; Standard at $5.49 is the first tier that does. Screenshots start
at Pro, $7.99 per seat, which takes one every five minutes while the clock runs.
Enterprise is $11.99. Monthly billing is roughly 20% more across the range. Stunda Team is $4.49 per person a month, with no seat cap.
At 5 people Clockify can simply be free, so this row is not
an argument for us: the paid figure is what the same headcount costs once you
need the tier that adds invoicing.
The gap is between "tracked" and "billable"
Clockify's auto tracker will tell you that you spent four hours in Figma.
Turning that into money is still your job: pick the entries, decide which
are billable, apply a rate, build the invoice, on the Standard tier or
above. Stunda closes that specific gap. A session already knows its
project, its rate and whether it has been invoiced, so an invoice is a
selection rather than a transcription. Invoices are stored, have a public
link you can send a client, and know whether they have been paid.
What gets measured, and what is never measured
Stunda counts keystrokes and clicks. It does not record what you typed,
and there is no mode that does. Browser URLs are recorded with the query
string stripped before they are stored, because a query string is where
search terms, session tokens and password reset links live. Screenshots
exist, they are off by default, and turning them on is a decision you make
for your own machine. Nothing on the Stunda upgrade path unlocks a way to
watch somebody else.
The free plan tracks forever and remembers a month
This is the detail that decides whether Clockify's free tier works for a
freelancer, and it is easy to miss: tracking on the free plan is unlimited, but
its reports only reach back one month. For a team logging hours against this
week's projects that is invisible. For one person reconstructing a project that
started in spring, or answering a client querying an invoice from two quarters
ago, it is the constraint that appears at exactly the wrong moment, and the way
out of it is a paid seat. Stunda keeps full history on every plan including the
free one, because on a tool you bill from, the record is the product.
Your time, inside the assistant you already use
Clockify does not advertise AI features on its pricing page, and there
is no first-party MCP server: what exists are community projects wrapping the
REST API, which means an unofficial dependency and your API key living in
somebody else's code. Stunda's MCP server is ours, hosted, and on the free
plan.
Your hours, readable from your own AI client
Stunda hosts an MCP endpoint, so Claude, Cursor, Codex and VS Code can answer
questions about your tracked week without an export. It runs strictly as you,
on every plan including Free, and it uses no AI quota.
Clockify has the better free plan, and it is not close
Five users, unlimited history, the auto tracker included, no card. If you
are a small team that needs shared time tracking and nothing else, Clockify
will cost you nothing and Stunda will cost you $22.45. We are not going to
pretend otherwise. The question worth asking is what you are buying when you
do upgrade, because Clockify's upgrade path is priced per seat and leads
toward oversight features: invoicing at Standard, then screenshots, GPS and
scheduling at Pro. If what you actually needed was for your tracked hours to
turn into an invoice, you have been routed through a workforce product to
get there.
Moving over from Clockify
Nothing here is a migration project. The honest version is that tracking
starts fresh and your history comes across as a file.
Export your history from Clockify as CSV and keep it. It is your
record of what you already billed, and it does not need to live in Stunda
for that to be true.
Install Stunda and let it run for a week alongside Clockify. The
two do not conflict, and a week is long enough to see whether the sessions
it records match what you would have typed in.
Clockify's free plan covers five, so you can leave both running side by side for as long as you want to before deciding anything.
Re-create your active projects and rates, which for most people is
a handful of rows. Historical entries can be posted through the API or
logged by an assistant through MCP if you want them in one place.
Invoice from Stunda once before you cancel anything. If the number
it produces matches the number you would have sent, the switch is done.

Is Clockify cheaper than Stunda?
For a small team that only needs time tracking, yes. Clockify is free for up to five users with unlimited history, which is more than Stunda gives away, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. Where it turns is invoicing: that starts at Clockify’s Standard tier, and Stunda includes it on every plan at $4.49 per person on annual billing.
Does Stunda take screenshots like Clockify Pro?
Screenshots exist in Stunda and are off by default. They are your own captures on your own machine, and there is no workspace setting that switches them on for somebody else. Keystrokes and clicks are counted, never recorded: Stunda stores how many, never what.
Can I import my Clockify data?
Clockify exports detailed reports as CSV, and Stunda accepts manual entries through its API and its MCP server, so historical time can be brought across. Live tracking starts fresh: run both for a week if you want to compare what each one records.
What does Clockify have that Stunda does not?
