Hubstaff at $4.99 per seat a month, billed annually, 2-seat minimum. Starter meters screenshots and app and URL tracking at 500 per user a month. Grow raises that to 1,500 at $7.50 per seat, and unlimited starts at Team, $10 per seat, both on annual billing. Stunda Team is $4.49 per person a month, with no seat cap. That is where the two models separate: 1.1x at 5 people.

Counts and content are not the same thing

Stunda's tracker counts keystrokes, clicks and scrolls. It does not record what you typed, and there is no setting that makes it. That is a structural choice, not a policy one: the counters increment and the events are discarded. Browser URLs have their query string removed before storage, because that is where search terms, session tokens and password reset links live. Screenshots exist, they default to off, and they are yours. Nothing here produces a feed for somebody else to review.

Metered surveillance is a strange thing to pay for

Hubstaff's Starter tier includes 500 screenshots and 500 app and URL records per user a month; Grow raises that to 1,500 at a higher per-seat rate; unlimited arrives at the Team tier. The upgrade path is literally priced on how much of your team's activity gets captured. There is also a two-seat minimum, so a solo operator pays for two. Stunda Pro is one person at $4.49 per person on annual billing, and Team is the same rate with no seat cap.

The advertised rate is not a rate one person can pay

Hubstaff's entry price is per seat with a two-seat minimum, so the smallest invoice a single freelancer can receive is double the number on the pricing page. That is not a trick, it is a product built for teams being sold at a team's unit of purchase, and it tells you plainly who it is for. The seat arithmetic on this page multiplies both sides properly rather than comparing our per-person rate against their headline one. The other half of the same story is what the tiers buy as you climb: the entry plan meters how many screenshots and app records you get per user per month, so the upgrade path is denominated in units of observation.

Your time, inside the assistant you already use

Hubstaff ships an official MCP server, which is genuinely ahead of most of this category, and the honest comparison is about scope rather than existence. Theirs is read-only and available to owners and managers of an organisation. Stunda's is available to every user on every plan, including Free, and can log an entry as well as read one, so an assistant can close out your day rather than just describe it.

Your hours, readable from your own AI client

Stunda hosts an MCP endpoint, so Claude, Cursor, Codex and VS Code can answer questions about your tracked week without an export. It runs strictly as you, on every plan including Free, and it uses no AI quota.

How the AI layer is built

Hubstaff is not a bad product, it is a different one

If you run a distributed hourly team, need to pay them automatically for time verified against activity, and have clients who contractually require proof of work, Hubstaff does all of that well and Stunda does none of it. Hubstaff also ships a first-party MCP server, which is more than most of this category can say, and its compliance posture is real. The question is whether you are the customer that product was designed for, because if you are one person invoicing three clients, every one of those capabilities is overhead you are carrying for nothing.

Moving over from Hubstaff

Nothing here is a migration project. The honest version is that tracking starts fresh and your history comes across as a file.

Export your history from Hubstaff as CSV and keep it. It is your record of what you already billed, and it does not need to live in Stunda for that to be true.
Install Stunda and let it run for a week alongside Hubstaff. The two do not conflict, and a week is long enough to see whether the sessions it records match what you would have typed in. Hubstaff has no free plan, so the overlap week runs on its trial. Start Stunda first and you will not be racing a clock.
Re-create your active projects and rates, which for most people is a handful of rows. Historical entries can be posted through the API or logged by an assistant through MCP if you want them in one place.
Invoice from Stunda once before you cancel anything. If the number it produces matches the number you would have sent, the switch is done.

Hubstaff and Stunda: common questions

Does Stunda take screenshots?

Only if you turn them on, and they are captures of your own machine that you can see and delete. They are off by default in both the interface and the underlying tracker. There is no organisation-level setting that switches them on for somebody else, which is the difference that matters here.

Does Stunda log keystrokes?

It counts them. The count is used to tell active work from an idle window, and the events themselves are discarded rather than stored. There is no mode, tier or admin setting that records typed content.

How much does Hubstaff cost?

Hubstaff has no free plan, only a 14-day trial. Starter is $4.99 per seat a month on annual billing or $7 monthly, Grow is $7.50 annual, Team is $10 annual and Enterprise is $25. Paid plans carry a two-seat minimum, so one person pays for two. Checked 30 July 2026.

My client requires screenshots. Can I use Stunda?

You can enable screenshots and share them, but Stunda has no verification workflow, no activity-level enforcement and no proof-of-work reporting built for a third party to audit. If a contract requires that specifically, Hubstaff is built for it and Stunda is not.

Can one person buy Hubstaff?

Its entry plan carries a two-seat minimum, so a single user pays for two seats. The five-seat and one-seat figures on this page multiply both products properly rather than comparing a per-person rate against a headline one.

Can my manager see my Stunda activity?

In a Team workspace, owners and admins can see sessions and reports for members, which is what makes shared billing work. What they cannot see is anything Stunda does not collect: no typed content, no screen recording, no captures unless that member enabled them on their own machine.
