The basics
What is Stunda?
Stunda (stunda.io) is an AI-powered time tracking and invoicing app for freelancers and small teams. It runs quietly on macOS and Windows, automatically measuring how long you spend on each project and app, then turns that tracked time into professional, branded invoices in about 60 seconds. It is a productivity and billing tool, not a parking or study-hours app.
How is Stunda different from Toggl, Clockify, or Hubstaff?
Stunda tracks automatically instead of asking you to remember to start and stop timers, and it turns that time straight into branded invoices, so there is no export-to-a-separate-tool step. It is privacy-first: it records keystroke and click counts only, never their content, and screenshots are strictly opt-in. AI insights and a daily digest are built in rather than bolted on.
What platforms are supported?
macOS and Windows desktop apps for automatic tracking. The web dashboard works on any browser for reviewing sessions, managing projects, and sending invoices.
Is there a free plan?
Yes: free forever for solo users. You get unlimited history, automatic and manual tracking, basic reports, and a monthly cap on invoices. No credit card required.
Do I need the desktop app, or can I use the browser?
Automatic tracking needs the desktop app, because a browser can only measure the browser. The web dashboard handles reviewing sessions, projects, manual entries and invoicing, and the two share one account.
How long does it take to set up?
About a minute. Download, sign in, and it starts tracking at login. There is no project to configure and no timer to start before it becomes useful, because time is assigned to projects after it has been measured.
How tracking works
How does automatic time tracking actually work?
The app samples which application and window has focus every few seconds, and counts keyboard and mouse events several times a second. That produces a timeline of your day with an activity level attached to each stretch, which you then review and assign to projects. Nothing needs to be started or stopped.
What data does Stunda collect?
Keystroke counts, mouse clicks, active window names, and idle time. We never log keystroke content, clipboard data, webcam footage, or screen recordings. Privacy is a core design principle, not an afterthought.
What happens to time when I step away from my desk?
After thirty seconds with no keyboard or mouse input the stretch is marked idle and shown separately. It is neither deleted nor billed automatically, so you decide which of it was a meeting and which was lunch with the timeline in front of you.
Will it bill me for time my computer was asleep?
No. A suspend ends the session at the point the machine slept. Stunda reads both a sleep-inclusive and an awake-only system clock precisely so that closing a laptop cannot produce hours nobody worked.
Can I use Stunda offline?
Yes. The desktop app keeps tracking if your internet drops, so a flight, a dead hotspot or a flaky cafe connection never costs you a session. Sessions are written to a local database first and synced when the connection returns.
Can I edit or delete tracked time?
Yes. The automatic timeline is a draft: you can split, merge, reassign and delete entries, and add manual ones for work away from the computer. The tracker produces the raw material, not the final answer.
Does it track which websites I visit?
Only if you grant the optional window-inspection permission, and then only the host and path. Query strings and fragments are stripped before anything is stored, because they carry search terms, session tokens and document ids that a timesheet has no business holding.
Privacy and security
Does Stunda take screenshots?
Only if you turn them on. They are off by default and enabling them requires granting an operating system permission from a deliberate action in settings. If you never touch that setting, no image of your screen is ever captured.
Does Stunda record what I type?
No. It counts input events. On macOS the system call it uses returns a running total of events and nothing else; on Windows it samples key state rather than installing a low-level keyboard hook, which is the mechanism keyloggers use and which we avoid deliberately. Neither has access to the content.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. You can export or delete everything at any time; we are fully GDPR compliant. Your data is yours.
Can my manager see what I typed or what my screen looked like?
No, because that data does not exist. There is no keystroke content and no screen recording in the product at all, and screenshots are a workspace setting that is off unless somebody deliberately enables it.
Who can see my time in a team workspace?
Controlled by role, and the permission to view other people's time is off by default rather than granted to everyone with an account.
Can I export my data?
CSV export for time entries and session data, PDF export for invoices. You can download everything from the settings page.
Invoicing and billable hours
How does invoicing work?
Select tracked time entries, add line items, customize your brand colors and logo, then export as PDF or share a unique link. The whole process takes about 60 seconds.
Can I invoice directly from tracked time without exporting?
Yes. Selected entries become invoice lines with hours and amounts computed from the tracked minutes, summed in whole cents per row. CSV export exists for anyone who bills in an accounting system instead.
How do I separate billable from non-billable time?
Billable is a property of the project rather than a decision per entry. Set the rate and the billable flag once and internal work, admin and idle stretches stay on the other side of the line automatically.
Can I bill different clients at different rates?
Yes. Rates are set per project, so a day split across several engagements produces the right amount per client without anyone doing arithmetic.
Can I bill in six-minute or fifteen-minute increments?
Yes, and the increment is applied to measured minutes rather than to an estimate. Track the raw figure, apply your rounding rule deliberately, and look at what the rule did over a quarter.
Plans, teams and billing
What happens if I cancel?
Your data stays accessible in read-only mode on the free tier. You can export everything before deleting your account if you choose to leave.
How is the team plan priced?
Per person, with no seat cap and a small minimum. The current figures are on the pricing page, which is the only place on this site that states them, so they cannot go stale here.
Can I add and remove seats myself?
Yes, from inside the app. Growing or shrinking the team does not require a conversation with us or a tier change.
Do you offer discounts for annual billing?
Yes, the annual cadence is cheaper per month than the monthly one. Both are shown side by side on the pricing page.
Do you offer onboarding help for larger teams?
Yes. For a larger rollout, migration from an existing tracker, invoicing terms or a security review, contact sales directly rather than going through self-serve checkout.

Still measuring, since the moment you opened this page
You've been here 2:40.
That's $3.78 unbilled.
That's how it slips away: a few quiet minutes at a time, on every project. Stunda catches them all day, silently, and turns them into invoices that send in four steps.
Free forever for solo freelancers. No card required. Setup takes 60 seconds.
